Open letter to the High Representative Josep Borrell-European Commission
We write you this letter in order to attract your attention towards the current situation of the Iranian people which are forced to live under barbaric circumstances.
We write you this letter in the name of the “Treaty of Solidarity for Freedom and Justice in Iran”. Members of this treaty are ten political parties as well as organizations from the Iranian opposition, which fights for freedom, justice and aims to reach the goal of establishing a federal, democratic and secular republic in Iran.
Dear Representative Borrell,
as you know, the confrontation between the Islamic Republic and the United States escalated when the Iranian regime shot down an aircraft which led to the death of 176 civilians in the night of January 8th. The Iranian authorities kept silent for three days after the catastrophe had happened not ready to declare the responsibility for the disaster. Finally, after massive pressure by the international community and also the family members of the deceased, the government was forced to admit their actions. The regime expressed that the event occurred because of “human failure” and was not supposed to happen. Therefore, the regime once again didn’t really take the full responsibility for their actions.
After the event thousands of people went outside in order to protest against a regime that does not care about the value of human lives once again.
The 40-year reign of the Islamic Republic is deeply tied to massive violations of basic human rights such as the oppression of the opposition, senseless imprisonment, running barbaric prisons, torture, and killings.
Dear Representative Borrell,
You are certainly aware of the protests in countless Iranian cities that started on November 25th 2019 which focused at the preposterous increase of gas prices, unemployment and simply want a better standard of living for themselves, freedom of speech, the right to be educated by independent institutions as well as unions, the right to strike and finally to protest. The Iranian Regime answered those protest with terror and armed force. People were shot from balconies by snipers. All of that happened purposely and was directly ordered by the Regime.
Eyewitnesses told that even children were purposely shot in the head. Unofficial accounts estimated that more than 1500 people had been killed and more then 7000 had been imprisoned.
Until this day the regime refuses to submit any numbers of how many people died in that period and how many persons were captured.Many eyewitnesses also stated that government officials moved the corps of the murdered-and even the injured protesters out of the hospitals to take them to unknown places in order tocover their heinous acts.
Credible sources report that many protesters have to fear for their lives while kept in prison.
All of those actions were directly ordered by Khamenei and are carried out by government officials just like it is occurring since the Islamic Regime took over the power in 1979.
The Iranian Regime also shut down the internet in order to cover their crimes.
Michelle Bachelet, United NationsBHigh Commissioner for Human Rights expressed her grave concern about the high number of casualties in Iran. She wrote in her statement that since the beginning of the protests in November more than 7000 people had been imprisoned in over 28 counties. In addition, the High Commissioner stated that she was worried about physical harm against the protesters. It is obvious that the prisoners are not able to aquire legal assistance or a fair trial. In conclusion many executions have to be feared.
On December 18 th , 2019 the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution that condemned the human rights violations in Iran. Furthermore, Amnesty International gave a concerning report about the current situation in Iran.
Everything simply documents the constant violation of human rights by the Regime in Tehran and the crimes against humanity by the Iranian military, the police and Iranian government agents.
The oppression and the imprisonment, the lack of any chance of a fair trial which whether leads to executions or long prison terms have been a part of this Regime from the beginning.
After UN-Resolution No. 598 had been passed concerning the end of the Iran-Iraq war in 1988, 5000 political prisoners were killed at the order of Khomeini within three months. The dead were buried in secret graves and the Regime refused to tell the families where to find their loved ones.
The kidnapping and killing of writers and intellectuals, of enemies in foreign countries, the constant message of calling something “Fake News” when it did not align with the Regimes worldview or finally calling enemies “foreign agents” has always been in the regime’s repertoire.
Up to date thousands of people are imprisoned but also thousands of people are protesting against that fact.
Dear Representative Borrell,
The people of Iran simply seek for a better life, freedom and justice. They need humanitarian help and global support concerning their human rights.
In the light of this catastrophe we ask you to pressure the Iranian regime to:
– publish the real number of persons that were killed or captured during the protests in
2019;
– release all of the political prisoners;
– ensure the rights of the families of those who have been killed;
– ensure a fair trial to the relatives of those who have been killed;
– enable an independent investigation of the events;
– ensure the Iranian people the right to protest, strike and an independent education just
as written in the UN-Charta;
– ensure that officials of the UN are able to enter Iran in order to investigate the constant
human rights violations especially those that took place in the recent protests.
We thank You for Your support.
